Air India has relaunched its non-stop flights to Zurich, Switzerland, after a 27-year gap. The airline will operate the route four times a week using a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, starting from June 16, 2024[1][2][4].
The flights will cater to the strong demand for business and leisure travel between the two destinations. The airline's CEO, Campbell Wilson, highlighted the significance of this route, stating that it will strengthen ties between India and Switzerland, which are major trading partners and have a vibrant exchange of people. Over 250 Swiss companies operate in India, and hundreds of Indian companies are based in Switzerland, making this route a vital connection for both business and leisure travelers [1][4].
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with flight AI 151 departing Delhi at 14:05 local time and arriving in Zurich at 19:15 local time. The return flight, AI 152, will depart Zurich at 20:50 local time and arrive in Delhi at 08:05 local time the next day[1][4].
This new service will enhance connectivity to Europe, providing travelers in Switzerland, southern Germany, and western Austria with a non-stop option to travel to Delhi and onward to destinations across Air India's growing route network [4].
Air India's extensive global network includes connections to over 40 destinations, served by a fleet of 140 aircraft. The airline has been modernizing its fleet by ordering new aircraft, with a significant portion of its fleet consisting of Airbus and Boeing aircraft [1].
The relaunch of this route marks Air India's seventh non-stop connection to a mainland European destination, joining Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, and Vienna [1][4].
Bookings for the new flights are being progressively opened across channels, including Air India's website and mobile app, as well as through travel agents and online travel agents [4].
With this new service, Air India aims to provide travelers with great comfort and care, from the warm Indian hospitality of its cabin crew to the choice of international and authentic Indian cuisine on board and complimentary beverages[4].
