Agnikul Cosmos, an IIT-Madras incubated start-up, is on the verge of a significant milestone in the realm of space te

chnology with the imminent launch of its 3D printed sub-orbital rocket, Agnibaan SOrTeD. This groundbreaking event is scheduled to take place later this month from the private launchpad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. Let's delve into the unique features and advancements that make Agnikul's single-stage suborbital technology a game-changer in the space industry.

The Innovation Behind Agnibaan SOrTeD

Agnikul's Agnibaan SOrTeD is powered by the world's first 3D printed, and India's first semi-cryogenic engine, the Agnilet engine. This engine, a 3D-printed, single-piece, 6 kilonewtons (kN) semi-cryogenic engine, propels the rocket, enabling it to carry payloads of up to 100 kg into a low earth orbit at a distance of 700 km[1][2]. The rocket's design incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a 'thrust vector controlled, gimballed motor,' allowing for precise control and steering during flight[2].

Significance of the Launch

The launch of Agnibaan SOrTeD marks a pivotal moment for Agnikul Cosmos and the Indian space industry. This sub-orbital flight will not only test the flight trajectory control but also pave the way for future orbital tests, where the rocket is expected to fly about 400-500 km above Earth[2]. Agnikul's vision to democratize space exploration by making it accessible and cost-effective is evident in its innovative approach to space technology and mission execution[4].

Agnikul's Mission and Vision

Established in 2017 by aerospace engineers Srinath Ravichandran and Moin SPM, along with IIT-Madras faculty member Prof. Sathyanarayan R Chakravarthy, Agnikul Cosmos has been at the forefront of private space exploration in India. The company's primary objective is to revolutionize space access by developing small satellite launch vehicles that are not only efficient but also mobile and adaptable to various launch ports worldwide[4].

In conclusion, Agnikul's upcoming launch of the Agnibaan SOrTeD rocket represents a significant leap forward in India's space technology landscape. The fusion of 3D printing, semi-cryogenic engines, and innovative design features positions Agnikul as a key player in the private space industry. As we await this historic event, the world watches with anticipation as Agnikul Cosmos propels India further into the realm of space exploration.
