## Gliders India Limited to Manufacture GPS-Guided Supply Drop Parachutes for Indian Armed Forces

Gliders India Limited (GIL), a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has announced plans to start manufacturing GPS-guided supply drop parachutes for the Indian Armed Forces. This move aligns with the company's goal of providing cutting-edge parachute technology to support the diverse requirements of the Indian military[1][3].

GIL, which was incorporated in August 2021, has a rich history dating back to 1941 when the Ordnance Parachute Factory was established in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Over the years, the company has excelled in producing a wide range of parachutes, including man-carrying parachutes, brake parachutes for fighter jets, and supply drop parachutes[3][4].

The introduction of GPS-guided supply drop parachutes marks a significant technological advancement for GIL. These parachutes will enable precise and controlled delivery of supplies and loads ranging from 135 to 160 kgs from aircraft flying at heights of 305 meters with speeds between 120 to 150 knots[5].

The GPS-guided system will provide enhanced accuracy and reliability compared to traditional supply drop methods. This technology will be particularly useful in challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions, ensuring that critical supplies reach their intended destinations efficiently and safely.

GIL's commitment to innovation and quality has earned it a reputation as a trusted partner for the Indian Armed Forces and international customers. The company's products adhere to the highest quality standards required for battlefront operations[4].

In addition to its military applications, GIL is also venturing into the civilian adventure, recreational, and sports markets by providing various paragliders, parasails, support equipment, and parachute rescue solutions for both humans and drones[3][4].

As GIL embarks on this new chapter of manufacturing GPS-guided supply drop parachutes, it reaffirms its position as a key player in the Indian defence industry and its dedication to supporting the nation's security and self-reliance goals under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative[3].
