Writer: BOOBASHKUMAR SBOOBASHKUMAR S

NSIL, the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has signed a Dedicated Launch Service Agreement with the Australian space company Space Machines Company (SMC) for the launch of Optimus, SMC's spacecraft, aboard ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) in 2026.[1][2][3][4][5]

The agreement marks a significant milestone in the growing collaboration between India and Australia in the space sector. NSIL will provide a dedicated launch service for Optimus, which is expected to be the largest Australian satellite ever launched.[4] This partnership showcases India's capabilities in the small satellite launch market and its increasing prominence as a preferred launch destination for international customers.[1][3][5]

The SSLV, a new launch vehicle developed by ISRO, is well-suited for the launch of small satellites like Optimus. With its flexible and cost-effective design, the SSLV is poised to cater to the growing demand for dedicated small satellite launches, both domestically and globally.[1][2][4]

This agreement between NSIL and SMC is a testament to the strong space cooperation between India and Australia, and it is expected to pave the way for further collaborations in the future.[3][5] The successful launch of Optimus on the SSLV will not only strengthen the commercial space ties between the two countries but also contribute to the global small satellite launch market.
