Indigenous Uttam AESA Radar Set to enter Mass Scale Production!

India's indigenous Uttam Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar is set to enter production in 2024, marking a significant stride towards self-reliance in defense technology. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has already initiated the production of Tejas Mk1A fighter jets, and from the 21st aircraft onward, they will be equipped with the Uttam AESA radar.
The Uttam radar has successfully completed all developmental trials and is ready for production. An improved variant was tailored to seamlessly integrate with the Tejas Mk1A, incorporating technological advancements from recent years to enhance India's fighter aircraft capabilities.
Rollout of the Tejas Mk1A aircraft with the Uttam radar is expected to commence in 2026, starting with the 21st aircraft. The initial 20 Tejas Mk1A jets will feature the Israeli ELTA-2052 AESA radar, highlighting India's transition to indigenous radar technology for defense needs.
The Uttam radar is renowned for its ability to track multiple targets concurrently, offer high-resolution imaging, and provide exceptional situational awareness. This system will significantly augment the combat capabilities of the Tejas Mk1A and future Indian Air Force fighter aircraft.
Furthermore, the Uttam Mk2 radar is under development for the LCA-AF Mk2 fighter jet program, reflecting India's ambition to equip its entire indigenous fighter aircraft fleet with cutting-edge radar systems.
The collaborative effort, as evidenced by the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between LRDE, HAL, and industry partners, demonstrates India's resolute commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities through indigenous innovation and production.
