Plane Crash Near I-25 “Mechanical Failure” Aviation Expert

According to an aviation expert, the plane crash that occurred near Interstate 25 in Larkspur, Colorado appears to have been caused by a mechanical failure. [1]

Chad Kendall, a professor of aviation at Metropolitan State University of Denver, reviewed video footage of the incident and stated that when a light, twin-engine airplane experiences engine failure, pilots may struggle to maintain altitude. [1] The aircraft eventually crashed into a marsh area, but both the pilot and passenger were able to exit the plane and were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. [1][2][3]

Kendall praised the pilots' actions, saying "The pilots did an excellent job in this situation. Certainly, walking ... away from the accident — could have been much worse." [1] The plane, identified as a Tecnam P2006T, struck an Interstate 25 sign before crashing into the field east of the highway. [2][3]

The incident caused significant traffic disruptions, with several lanes of northbound I-25 closed for several hours. [3] The National Transportation Safety Board will be responsible for investigating the cause of the crash. [2][3]
