In a recent incident, SpiceJet passengers travelling from Delhi to Srinagar faced a harrowing experience as they were left waiting inside an aircraft without air conditioning (AC) for over an hour amid the ongoing heatwave. The passengers, who were already delayed by three hours, were left feeling unwell and frustrated due to the lack of proper cooling measures.
The incident occurred on June 3, 2024, when SpiceJet flight SG 8150, scheduled to operate from Delhi to Srinagar, returned to the bay due to a technical issue. The air-conditioning system was not functioning at its optimum, causing discomfort to the passengers. The flight eventually departed at 6:30 PM, but not before the passengers had to endure the heat for over an hour.
Passengers, including Dr. Pandit and Kanwar Preet Singh, expressed their frustration and concern about the situation. Dr. Pandit stated that the passengers were made to board and sit inside the plane for over an hour without AC, and then deplaned and stuffed into a bus without AC. Kanwar Preet Singh mentioned that his father, who has diabetes, started feeling sick amid the long delay and that the crew did not provide any proper updates or arrangements to ensure passenger comfort.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring passenger safety and comfort, particularly during extreme weather conditions. SpiceJet has apologized for the inconvenience caused and stated that the technical issue was due to a maintenance problem. However, the incident raises questions about the airline's preparedness to handle such situations and its commitment to passenger well-being.
