The proposal, discussed during the annual India-UK Defence Consultative Group (DCG) meeting held in New Delhi on November 24, 2023, signifies a pivotal moment in the ongoing partnership between the two nations.

Chaired by Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane and his UK counterpart, Mr. David Williams, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, the meeting saw the UK expressing its keen interest in working closely with India on advancing the engine capabilities of the AMCA. This collaborative effort aims to reinforce India's air defense capabilities with a state-of-the-art fighter jet.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), confirmed the ongoing discussions with the UK regarding the AMCA engine development partnership. He highlighted that the DRDO is actively evaluating potential collaborators for the 6th-generation engine program and anticipates finalizing a deal within the next six months.

The UK's offer builds on a longstanding history of successful collaborations between the two countries in various defense domains, including aircraft manufacturing, joint exercises, and technology transfer.
