The tests were conducted at Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, and saw two consecutive successful flights from a ground-based man-portable launcher against high-speed unmanned aerial targets.

The VSHORADS missile is a man-portable air defense system designed to neutralize low-altitude aerial threats at short ranges.

Designed and developed indigenously by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners, the missile incorporates many novel technologies, including a dual-band infrared seeker, miniaturized reaction control system, and integrated avionics. The propulsion system is provided by a dual-thrust solid motor.

The successful tests have been hailed by the Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, who complimented DRDO and industry partners, stating that the missile equipped with novel technologies will provide further technological boost to the Indian armed forces.

DRDO Chairman, Samir V Kamat, also congratulated the teams associated with the consecutive successful flight tests of the missile.

The successful testing of the VSHORADS missile marks a significant milestone for the DRDO and showcases the country’s technological capabilities in the defense sector.
